How to release a Konkani song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Romi titles and caller tunes
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
Yes: one SUF Digitals release takes your Konkani song to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ other stores, from Rs 999 a year plus GST. Pick Konkani under All languages in the release form and the stores list it as Konkani. Write the title in Roman letters, the Romi way Konkani is already widely written online.
Yes, you can release your Konkani songs everywhere
Konkani is the first language of about 22.6 lakh people (Census 2011). It has been Goa's official language since 1987 and is spoken along the western coast, in Mangaluru and Uttara Kannada, the Konkan and parts of Kerala, as well as in Dang district in Gujarat and in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. There are Konkani communities in the Gulf, Kenya, Uganda, Portugal and the UK too.
Its music has many strands. Goa has the Mando, Dulpod and Deknni, the Fugdi danced by women and the Dhalo, plus Tiatr, the musical theatre performed in Romi Konkani in Goa, Mumbai, the Gulf and the UK. Mangaluru has Mandd Sobhann, the Konkani music movement started there in 1986, and Konkani cinema dates back to Mogacho Anvddo in 1950.
With one SUF release, a Konkani song goes to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram and 150+ stores, and becomes available as a caller tune on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL.
How to release a Konkani song
Six steps take you from a finished master to a song on every store.
- Open a SUF Digitals account and choose your plan. Prices start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and every plan leaves 100% of your copyright with you.
- Enter your artist name with links to your Spotify and Apple Music profiles. New to the stores? Say so on your first release, and your artist pages are created along with it.
- Create the release and choose Konkani as its language and as each track's language. It is under All languages in the language picker, and the stores list it as Konkani.
- Upload the master as WAV or FLAC (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a square cover of 3000 x 3000 pixels, JPG or PNG. Test the cover in the free cover art checker, which runs the same checks.
- Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare the rights in each track and set the release date: on Rising and above you pick it, and on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
- Submit, and SUF checks the release against the stores' rules before it goes out. On release day, post your free smart link: it opens the song in each listener's own music app.
Konkani playlists on JioSaavn and the other stores
Konkani is not one of the languages JioSaavn's website offers as a setting, yet JioSaavn still tags songs as Konkani. All 20 results we checked for konkani song in October 2026 carried the tag.
The store-run playlist we found for Konkani is JioSaavn's editorial Various Artists - Spotlight, which held 25 tracks, every one tagged Konkani. JioSaavn's own playlist search for konkani returned no playlists.
With Pro, Signature, Label Pro or Label Enterprise, the Pro plan and above, SUF pitches your release to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music. For a Konkani song that means the editors behind language playlists like the Spotlight, and those who fill wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists.
Lock the release 14 days or more before release day, since Spotify only looks at songs pitched at least 7 days ahead. What goes in is the editors' choice: placement is never guaranteed, and no streams or playlist spots are ever bought. Your fans' listening also feeds Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly on Spotify. Read about playlist pitching.
Titles, script and spelling: Romi, Devanagari or Kannada
Konkani is written in several scripts: Devanagari (कोंकणी), which is official in Goa, Roman (known as Romi), Kannada, Malayalam and Perso-Arabic. On JioSaavn, one of them leads by a long way.
Use Roman letters for the store title. All 25 tracks in JioSaavn's Spotlight and all 20 search results for konkani song had Roman titles, and Romi is already how Konkani is widely written in Goa, online and for Tiatr. Type the title as a fan would on a phone, then share the Devanagari or Kannada-script title in your release description and YouTube and Instagram captions.
Even the language's name has two Roman spellings, Konkani and Konknni, so choose one spelling of your artist name and use it everywhere; a second spelling becomes a second artist page. The name must use English letters (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only). Keep emoji, ALL CAPS, 'feat.' and promo words such as Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song or Trending out of titles, and match the words on your cover to the title and artist name.
When Konkani songs are in demand
Ganesh Chaturthi, in late August or September, fills Goan homes with aartis, and women dance the Fugdi in front of Ganesha. Lock festival songs three to four weeks before the day.
Monti Fest, the harvest feast of Konkani Catholics, falls on 8 September, so lock a Monti Fest song by mid-August. Shigmo, Goa's spring festival around March, brings Naman songs sung in chorus; plan those in February.
Weddings have a repertoire of their own: the Ovi nuptial songs and the Voviyo of Mangalorean Catholic weddings. Whatever the occasion, on Pro and above keep the release locked at least 14 days before release day so that it can be pitched.
Folk, devotional and traditional Konkani songs
Beyond Mando, Dulpod, Deknni, Fugdi and Dhalo, the Konkani tradition includes Zagor and Kunnbi songs, Ovi, Voviyo and the Naman of Shigmo. Devotional music spans Catholic hymns (honvious), Ganesh Chaturthi aartis and the Ghumat music played at Hindu festivals and temple rituals.
A traditional folk song belongs to everyone, so you can release your own recording of one: mark it Traditional or public domain in the rights step. The recording has to be yours. A song someone else wrote, a tiatr song included, needs its owner's licence before you cover it, and a remix needs the original recording owner's permission. More in cover song licences and devotional music.
Traditional songs and traditional hymns stay off YouTube Content ID; only original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats can go on it.
Caller tunes, royalties and Konkani artists abroad
Every plan includes caller tunes on Jio (JioTunes), Airtel (Hellotunes), Vi and BSNL at no extra cost, and that covers Konkani songs too. A song kept as someone's caller tune earns every month it stays. How caller tunes work.
Royalties are paid in rupees to your bank account or UPI, with statements by track, store, country and month. Konkani artists living in the Gulf, Portugal or the UK can join too, and payouts go by SWIFT bank transfer or PayPal.
Questions artists ask
Can I upload a Konkani song on Spotify and JioSaavn?
Yes. Choose Konkani under All languages in the SUF release form; the stores list it as Konkani, and one release reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ more.
Should I write my Konkani song title in Romi or Devanagari?
Romi, meaning Roman letters, for the store title: every Konkani title we checked on JioSaavn was written that way. Share the Devanagari or Kannada-script title in your description and captions.
How much does it cost to release a Konkani song?
Artist plans run from Rs 999 a year on Debut, where you keep 80% of royalties, to Rs 1,999 on Rising (85%), Rs 2,999 on Pro (90%, with editorial pitch support) and Rs 3,999 on Signature (95%), all before 18% GST.
Can I release songs from my tiatr?
Yes, if the songs and the recordings are yours: release them as originals and credit every writer, singer and producer. Songs written by others need their owner's licence.
Can I release a traditional Fugdi or Ovi song?
Yes, provided the recording is yours. In the rights step choose Traditional or public domain; such songs stay off YouTube Content ID.
Do I need a following before I can release a Konkani song?
No. Anyone can sign up with SUF Digitals, from anywhere in India, with no follower or stream minimum.
Can I release a Malvani song as Konkani?
Yes. The Census counts Malvani under Konkani, so you can choose Konkani as the language; if you would rather the stores list it under another language, choose that one instead.
