How to release a Marathi or Ahirani song: Spotify, JioSaavn, playlists and caller tunes
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
Yes: a Marathi or Ahirani (Khandeshi) song reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ stores in a single SUF Digitals release, from Rs 999 a year plus GST. Both languages sit under All languages in the release form and go to the stores under their own names, and from the Pro plan up SUF pitches your release to the editors who run playlists such as Hot Hits Marathi.
Yes, you can release your Marathi songs everywhere
Marathi is spoken by about 8.3 crore people (Census 2011), which makes it India's third largest scheduled language. Its home is Maharashtra, and there are Marathi communities in Goa, in Vadodara and Surat, in Belagavi and Bidar, and in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Emigrants took it as far as Mauritius in the 19th century.
Marathi cinema is India's oldest film industry, dating back to Raja Harishchandra in 1913, and its folk forms are many: Lavani danced to the dholki, the heroic Powada ballads, Shahiri, the night-long Gondhal and the Koli fisherfolk's Koligeet. Marathi pop and indie singles now sit alongside film songs on the playlists.
Whether it is your first song released in Marathi or your fiftieth, one SUF release takes it to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram and 150+ stores. Caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL come with it, and Ahirani works the same way, as the section below explains.
How to release a Marathi song
Here is a new Marathi song release from start to finish, in six steps that work the same for Ahirani.
- Sign up for SUF Digitals and choose a plan: from Rs 999 a year before GST, with 100% of your copyright kept on every plan.
- Enter your artist name and link your Spotify and Apple Music profiles. On a first release, mark yourself new to the stores, and your artist pages are set up along with it.
- Start a release and choose its language, and then the language of each track. Marathi and Ahirani are both under All languages in the language picker, and the stores list each under its own name.
- Add a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a 3000 x 3000 pixel square cover, JPG or PNG. The free cover art checker runs the same checks before you upload.
- Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare each track's rights and set a release date. You pick the date from the Rising plan up; on Debut it is fixed at 7 days after you submit.
- Submit the release, and SUF checks it against the stores' rules before delivery. When it goes live, share your free smart link so each fan opens the song in their own music app.
Marathi playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music and Amazon Music
Store editors run a good number of Marathi playlists. These are the ones we found in October 2026.
Hot Hits Marathi is not just film music: when we looked in October 2026, only 4 of its 50 titles were marked as coming from a film.
Regional playlist support at SUF starts on the Pro plan and covers Signature, Label Pro and Label Enterprise too. Each release is pitched to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, among them the editors of the Marathi lists above, and a whole EP or album can be pitched at once.
Lock your release at least 14 days before release day; Spotify looks only at songs pitched 7 days or more ahead. The editors choose what goes in, so placement is never guaranteed, and SUF never pays for streams or playlist spots. How playlist pitching works.
| Store | Editorial playlists | What they hold |
|---|---|---|
| Spotify | Hot Hits Marathi, Latest Marathi Hits | Current and new Marathi hits |
| JioSaavn | Marathi: India Superhits Top 50, Most Searched Songs - Marathi | Marathi charts |
| JioSaavn | Ganpati - Marathi, Vitthalache Abhang | Ganpati songs and Vitthal abhangs |
| JioSaavn | Bedhund Lavani, Paramparik Koligeet, Marathi Folk Songs | Lavani, Koligeet and other folk |
| Apple Music | Marathi Hits | Marathi hits |
| Amazon Music | 50 Most Played: Marathi | The most played Marathi songs |
Titles, script and spelling
Marathi is written in Devanagari (मराठी) in its Balbodh style, and the older Modi script is historical. On the stores, Marathi titles are Roman: all 50 on Spotify's Hot Hits Marathi and all 45 on JioSaavn's Marathi Top 50 were in Roman letters when we counted in October 2026. Devanagari shows up mostly in the names listeners give their own playlists.
So type the title the way a fan would search for it on a phone. Give the Devanagari title in your release description and in your YouTube and Instagram captions, where Marathi readers will see it.
Artist names take English letters only (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - are accepted). Spell yours one way on every release so you build one artist page, not two. Leave emoji, ALL CAPS, 'feat.' and promo words like Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song or Trending out of the title, and make the words on your cover match the title and artist name.
When Marathi songs are in demand
Ganesh Chaturthi is Maharashtra's state festival, with family aartis morning and evening and processions full of music. It falls between 22 August and 20 September, so lock Ganpati songs three to four weeks before it begins. JioSaavn has a Ganpati - Marathi playlist.
Ashadhi Ekadashi and the Pandharpur Vari come in June or July, when pilgrims walk to Pandharpur singing abhangs to Vithoba. On Pro and above, an abhang locked in May leaves time for a pitch.
Gudi Padwa, the Marathi new year, falls in spring, in March or April. Navratri brings Gondhal and Dandiya songs. For any of these, lock the release at least 14 days before release day, and three to four weeks before the festival if you can.
Folk, devotional and traditional Marathi songs
Marathi devotional music is a catalogue of its own: abhangs to Vitthal, Ganpati aartis, Gondhal, bhakti geet and Sai Baba songs. It reaches the charts too: a gondhal was in JioSaavn's Marathi Top 50 when we checked in October 2026.
When a song is traditional, such as an old abhang, aarti or Koli song that belongs to everyone, mark it Traditional or public domain in the rights step. Your recording of it must be your own. Film bhakti geet are different: they have owners, so a new version is a cover that needs the owner's licence. See cover song licences and releasing devotional music.
Traditional abhangs, aartis and folk songs never go on YouTube Content ID, which takes only original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats.
Releasing an Ahirani or Khandeshi song
Ahirani, also called Khandeshi, is the language of the Khandesh region of north-west Maharashtra, and it is spoken in Gujarat too. In Census 2011, about 16 lakh people gave Ahirani as their mother tongue, part of a Khandeshi total of about 18.6 lakh. It is written in Devanagari.
If you searched Ahirani song upload kaise kare or Khandeshi song upload kaise kare, the answer is the six steps above with Ahirani chosen under All languages. The stores list it as Ahirani, and JioSaavn already carries albums such as Khandeshi Pawari, Khandeshi Sambhal and Khandeshi Jhumari.
We found no store-run playlist just for Ahirani or Khandeshi (as of October 2026). From the Pro plan up, a pitch still brings your song to the editors of wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists, and every fan who streams it feeds Spotify's Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly. For a Khandeshi song new release, use both names, Ahirani and Khandeshi, in your captions so fans find it under either.
