How to release a Tulu song: Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music and caller tunes

By the SUF Digitals team · Updated

Yes, you can release a Tulu song on Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, YouTube Music and 150+ other stores, listed under its own name, Tulu, and fans can keep it as their caller tune on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL. On SUF Digitals you choose Tulu under All languages. Beary songs can be released too, and the stores list them under Malayalam.

Yes, you can release your Tulu songs everywhere

Tulu is the mother tongue of about 18.5 lakh people in India (Census 2011), and its home is Tulu Nadu: the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka and northern Kasaragod in Kerala. Tuluva families in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and the Gulf carry it further.

Coastalwood, the Tulu film industry, makes five to seven films a year and releases them in Mangaluru, Udupi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and the Middle East. Beside the films come Tulu bhakti singles and non-film album songs, and a folk tradition of Paddana epics, Kabitol songs, Yakshagana, the Pili Vesha tiger dance and Aati Kalenja.

Your Tulu song goes out through SUF Digitals to Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram, Facebook and 150+ stores in one release. Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL caller tunes come with every plan at no extra cost.

How to release a Tulu song

Six steps take a Tulu album song from your laptop to the stores. Anyone can join; there is no follower or stream minimum.

  1. Make your SUF Digitals account and choose a plan. Prices start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and on every plan your copyright stays 100% yours.
  2. Add your artist name with your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. For a first release, mark yourself new to the stores, and your artist pages are made along with it.
  3. Create a release and pick the language for the release and every track. Tulu is in the "All languages" group, and the stores list your song as Tulu. Beary is under "More Indian languages": the stores have no Beary category yet, so they list it under Malayalam, and your release keeps Beary with us. To be listed under a different store language, choose that language instead.
  4. Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a 3000 x 3000 pixel square cover, as JPG or PNG. Try the free cover art checker first; it runs the same checks.
  5. Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare the song rights and set the release date. From the Rising plan up the date is yours to choose; on Debut it falls 7 days after you submit.
  6. Submit. SUF checks every release against the stores' rules before it goes out. On release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.

Tulu playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music

To be plain: we found no store-run playlist just for Tulu on Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music or Amazon Music (as of October 2026). JioSaavn's playlist search for Tulu came back empty, and Spotify and Amazon Music showed only playlists made by listeners.

The stores do know the language, though. Tulu is not in JioSaavn's own language menu, yet JioSaavn tags Tulu songs "tulu": all 12 results we checked for "tulu song" carried that tag.

A pitch still counts. From the Pro plan up (Pro, Signature, Label Pro and Label Enterprise), SUF pitches your release to editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, which puts a Tulu song in front of the people who build their wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists, and a whole EP or album can be pitched. Lock the release at least 14 days before release day, as Spotify only considers songs pitched 7 days or more ahead. Editors decide, placement is never guaranteed, and SUF never buys streams or playlist spots: see playlist pitching.

Your fans matter as much: their listening feeds Spotify's algorithmic playlists, Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly. So send your smart link to listeners in Tulu Nadu, Mumbai and the Gulf on release day.

Tulu titles, script and spelling

Tulu (ತುಳು ಬಾಸೆ) is written today in Kannada script, sometimes in Malayalam script, and historically in its own Tigalari script. The Tulu songs we checked on JioSaavn all had Roman-letter titles, such as Moji Mone and Kateelu Shri Durgaparameshwari.

So title your song in Roman letters, the way a listener in Mangaluru or Mumbai would type it, and put the Kannada-script title in the release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions. Leave out emoji, ALL CAPS, "feat." and promo words (Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song, Trending).

Your artist name must be in English letters: letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only. Keep a single spelling, because a second one becomes a second artist page, and make sure the words on your cover art match the title and artist name.

When Tulu songs are in demand

Kambala, Tulu Nadu's buffalo-race season, runs from November to March. Navratri brings Mangaluru Dasara and its Pili Vesha tiger dancers in September or October, and Bisu Parba, the Tulu new year, falls on the same day as Vishu, 14 or 15 April. Paddanas are sung at the annual kola and nema ceremonies.

On Pro and above, lock the release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched, and three to four weeks before a festival is better: by mid-October for the start of the Kambala season, by late August for Navratri and by mid-March for Bisu.

Tulu folk, devotional and traditional songs

Paddanas are the sung epics recited at Bhuta Kola and Daiva worship, and Tulu also has Kabitol songs from the O Bele tradition, Yakshagana and the music of Pili Vesha and Aati Kalenja. Tulu bhakti singles are a scene of their own; Kateelu Shri Durgaparameshwari is one tagged Tulu on JioSaavn.

Each track is declared as original, cover, traditional or public domain, or remix. A paddana or folk song handed down for generations belongs to everyone, so mark it "Traditional or public domain", with a recording that is yours. A bhakti song or film song someone else wrote is a cover and needs the song owner's licence, and a remix needs the original recording owner's permission.

Traditional songs never go on YouTube Content ID; only original songs without samples or non-exclusive beats do. See devotional music and cover songs.

Beary songs

Beary, also written Byari, is spoken in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, across coastal and western Karnataka, in western Malenadu and in Kodagu. Census 2011 does not list it separately, so there is no official speaker count. It is written in Malayalam or Kannada script.

Byari (2011), the first feature film in the language, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, and the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy has promoted Beary literature and culture since 2007. Choose Beary under More Indian languages, and the stores list your song under Malayalam.

When we searched JioSaavn for a Beary song in October 2026, it found none, and we found no store-run Beary playlist. Your title, description and smart link do the work of telling fans the song exists; a pitch from the Pro plan up still reaches editors of wider Indian and devotional playlists, and fans' plays feed Spotify's Release Radar and Daily Mix.

Questions Tulu artists ask

Is there a Tulu playlist on Spotify or JioSaavn?

Can I release a paddana or a Bhuta Kola song?

Yes. A paddana handed down for generations is marked Traditional or public domain, as long as the recording is yours, and it never goes on YouTube Content ID.
