How to release a Kokborok song: Spotify, JioSaavn, script choices and caller tunes

By the SUF Digitals team · Updated

Kokborok songs can go out on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores, listed under Kokborok itself. With SUF Digitals you choose Kokborok in the release form, add a master and a square cover, and submit. Plans start at Rs 999 a year plus GST, and caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL are part of every plan.

Yes, Kokborok songs can go on every major store

Kokborok, also called Tripuri or Tipra Kok, has been an official language of Tripura since 1979. The census files it under Tripuri: about 10.1 lakh people belong to that language group, about 9.2 lakh of whom gave Kokbarak as their mother tongue (Census 2011).

It is also spoken in Assam, Mizoram and West Bengal, and across the border in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. Whether you sing a song from your grandparents' village or a new pop track, a Kokborok release works the same way.

One release puts the song on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana and Instagram, among more than 150 stores worldwide. It can also become a caller tune on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, with no extra charge on any plan.

How to release a Kokborok song

Six steps take a Kokborok song from a finished master to the stores.

  1. Sign up for SUF Digitals and choose a plan. Plans start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and you keep 100% of your copyright on every one.
  2. Enter your artist name and add your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. If this is your first release, mark yourself as new to the stores, and your artist pages are created along with it.
  3. Create the release and set the language, for the release and every track, to Kokborok. It sits under All languages in the picker, spelled the stores' way, and the stores list your song as Kokborok.
  4. Upload your master as WAV or FLAC (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a 3000 x 3000 pixel square cover as JPG or PNG. Try the free cover art checker first; it runs the same checks.
  5. Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare the song rights and set the date. You choose the release date from the Rising plan up; on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
  6. Submit, and SUF checks the release against the stores' rules before it goes out. On release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.

Kokborok playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music

To be plain about it: as of October 2026 we found no store-run playlist just for Kokborok songs on Spotify, JioSaavn or Apple Music, and Kokborok is not in JioSaavn's language menu. None of this holds the release back. The song still goes live everywhere, labelled Kokborok.

Lock the release at least 14 days before release day if you want it pitched; Spotify only looks at songs pitched 7 days or more ahead. Editors make the call, placement is never guaranteed, and SUF never pays for streams or playlist spots. Three things still work in your favour:

  • A pitch. On the Pro plan and above, SUF sends the release, or a whole EP or album, to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, who also choose songs for wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists. See playlist pitching.
  • Your fans. Their listening feeds Spotify's algorithmic playlists: Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly.
  • Search. A title in Roman letters and one spelling of your name make the song easy to find for anyone who types it in.

Roman or Bengali script: titles and spelling

Kokborok is written in both the Roman and the Bengali script, and which one it should use is a contested question in Tripura. This guide takes no side. For the stores, the practical point is search, and phone searches are typed in Roman letters.

So write the store title in Roman letters, spelled the way your listeners type it, and share the Bengali-script title in your release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions for fans who read it. Words on the cover must match the title and artist name on the release.

Even the language's name has several spellings: Kokborok, Kok Borok, Kokbarak, Tiprakok. Your artist name should have just one, used on every release, since two spellings mean two artist pages. Names take English letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only, and titles cannot carry emoji, ALL CAPS, feat. or words like Official, Lyrical or Video Song.

Timing a Kokborok release

Every community has its own calendar of festivals and gatherings, and you know your listeners' calendar better than any store does. Pick the occasion your song belongs to, then count back.

For a festival song, a release day three to four weeks before the festival is better than one in the same week, and on Pro and above the release must be locked at least two weeks before release day to be pitched. A song with no fixed occasion can go out in any week you are ready to promote it.

Choosing your own release date comes with the Rising plan and above. On Debut the date is set for you, 7 days after you submit, so plan around that.

Traditional Kokborok songs and the rights

A traditional song handed down through the generations belongs to everyone, and you can release your own recording of it. In the rights step, mark it Traditional or public domain.

What you own is the recording, so it has to be made by you and your musicians, not lifted from an old cassette or video. A song someone else wrote is a cover and needs the song owner's licence; a remix needs permission from the owner of the original recording. See cover songs.

Your own new songs, free of samples and non-exclusive beats, can go on YouTube Content ID. Content ID never covers traditional or public domain songs.

Caller tunes and royalties

A Kokborok song can be a caller tune on Jio (JioTunes), Airtel (Hellotunes), Vi and BSNL, included on every plan at no extra cost. Each listener who keeps it as their caller tune earns you money every month they keep it. More on caller tunes.

Royalties are paid in rupees to your bank account or UPI, with statements by track, store, country and month. You keep 80% of royalties on Debut (Rs 999), 85% on Rising (Rs 1,999), 90% on Pro (Rs 2,999) and 95% on Signature (Rs 3,999), all yearly prices before 18% GST.

Questions artists ask

Can I upload a Kokborok song on Spotify?

Yes. Create a release on SUF Digitals, choose Kokborok under All languages, and the song goes to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores, listed as Kokborok.

Does JioSaavn support Kokborok songs?

Yes, your song goes live on JioSaavn listed as Kokborok, even though Kokborok is not yet in JioSaavn's language menu. Fans reach it by searching your title or artist name, or through your smart link.

Should my Kokborok song title be in Roman or Bengali script?

Use Roman letters for the store title, because that is how people type a search on a phone. Put the Bengali-script title in your description and captions if your listeners read it.

Is there a Kokborok playlist on Spotify?

We found none as of October 2026. From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches your release to Spotify's editors for their wider Indian and folk playlists, though editors decide and placement is never guaranteed.

Can Kokborok speakers in Bangladesh hear my song?

Yes, on the services available there. Your release goes to stores worldwide, not only in India.

Will my own label name appear on the release?

From the Pro plan up, your own label name goes on every release. On Debut and Rising, releases carry the SUF Digitals label.
