How to release a Mizo song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Chapchar Kut and caller tunes

By the SUF Digitals team · Updated

Yes, a Mizo song can go out on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores. On SUF Digitals you choose Mizo from the Adivasi (tribal) languages in the release form. The stores have no Mizo category yet, so they list the song under Hindi, while your song, title and artist name stay exactly as you made them.

Yes, Mizo songs can go everywhere

Mizo, Mizo ṭawng in its own words and Lushai in older records, is the official language of Mizoram alongside English. About 8.3 lakh people in India speak it (Census 2011), about 8 lakh of them in Mizoram, with smaller groups in Assam and Meghalaya.

It is a recognised minority language in Manipur and Tripura, and is spoken across the border in Myanmar and Bangladesh too. Chapchar Kut, the spring festival in March, brings traditional and modern music and singing, and dances such as the Cheraw, Khuallam, Chheihlam, Chai and Sarlamkai.

With one SUF release, your Mizo song reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram and 150+ stores worldwide. It can also be a caller tune on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL at no extra cost.

How to release a Mizo song

Mizo has its own place in the release form, among the Adivasi languages, and our guide to releasing in tribal languages explains how that group works. Everything else is the same as any release.

  1. Create your account on SUF Digitals and choose a plan. Plans start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and your copyright stays 100% yours on every plan.
  2. Add your artist name with links to your Spotify and Apple Music profiles. If this is your first release, mark yourself new to the stores, and your artist pages are created with it.
  3. Create the release and choose Mizo for it and for every track, under Adivasi (tribal) languages in the picker. The stores have no Mizo category yet, so they list the song under Hindi; the release keeps Mizo with us.
  4. Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a 3000 x 3000 pixel square cover, JPG or PNG. Run the cover through the free cover art checker, which makes the same checks.
  5. Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare each song's rights and pick a release date. You choose the date from the Rising plan up; on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
  6. Submit, and SUF checks the release against the stores' rules before it goes out. On release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song straight in each fan's own music app.

Mizo playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music

As of October 2026 we found no store-run playlist just for Mizo songs on Spotify, JioSaavn or Apple Music, and Mizo is not in JioSaavn's language menu. Because the stores file the song under Hindi, what brings Mizo listeners to it is a title they can type, your smart link and your fans.

With Pro, Signature, Label Pro or Label Enterprise, SUF pitches your release to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, a whole EP or album included. That puts a Mizo song in front of the editors of wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists, while your fans' listening feeds Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly on Spotify.

The release needs to be locked at least 14 days before release day, as Spotify takes pitches only 7 days or more ahead. Read how playlist pitching works.

Editors choose what goes on their playlists, so placement is never guaranteed. SUF never buys streams or playlist spots.

Titles, script and spelling

Mizo is written in a Latin-based alphabet of 25 letters, devised by the missionaries J. H. Lorrain and F. W. Savidge. Your titles are already in Roman letters, which is what phone searches use.

Some letters carry marks, such as the dotted ṭ, that are awkward on a phone keyboard. Write the store title the way your listeners type it into search, and share the spelling with every mark in your release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions.

The artist name field accepts English letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only, so leave marks out of your name and spell it one way on every release; a second spelling turns into a second artist page. Cover words must match the title and artist name, and titles cannot carry emoji, ALL CAPS, feat. or words like Lyrical or New Song.

When Mizo songs are in demand

Two seasons stand out. Chapchar Kut falls in March, usually on the first Friday, and Christmas comes in December, in a state that was 87.16% Christian in 2011.

For Chapchar Kut, count back from the first Friday of March: a release day in early February, locked by mid-January, gives the song three to four weeks to find listeners. For Christmas, the window is the end of November, with the release locked by early November.

If the exact date matters, Rising or a higher plan lets you set it. Debut releases go live on a date set 7 days after submission.

Traditional Mizo songs and the rights

If you record a traditional tune for the Cheraw or another Chapchar Kut dance, the tune belongs to everyone, so mark it Traditional or public domain in the rights step. Only the recording is yours, which means it must be a performance you made, not one copied from an older album.

A song someone else wrote, such as a recent Christmas song, is a cover and needs the song owner's licence. A remix needs permission from the owner of the original recording. Read our guide to cover songs.

Original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats can go on YouTube Content ID; traditional and public domain songs never do.

Questions artists ask

Can I upload a Mizo song on Spotify?

Yes. Choose Mizo under Adivasi (tribal) languages when you create your release on SUF Digitals, and the song goes to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores. The stores list it under Hindi, since they have no Mizo category yet.

Why do the stores show my Mizo song as Hindi?

The stores have no Mizo category yet, so songs in SUF's Adivasi languages are listed under Hindi. Your song, title and artist name stay exactly as you made them, and the release keeps Mizo as its language with us.

Is there a Mizo playlist on Spotify or JioSaavn?

We found none as of October 2026. From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches releases to the stores' editors for their wider Indian and folk playlists, and placement is never guaranteed.

When should I release a Chapchar Kut song?

In early February, three to four weeks before the festival, which is usually held on the first Friday of March. On Pro and above, lock the release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched.

Can I use Mizo letters like ṭ in my artist name?

No. Artist names on SUF use English letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only, so write your name without marks and keep that spelling everywhere.

Can my Mizo song be a caller tune on Jio or Airtel?

Yes. Caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL are included on every plan, in every language, and a song people keep as their caller tune earns every month they keep it.
