How to release a Maithili song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Vidyapati geet and caller tunes
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
Yes, you can release a Maithili song on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ other stores. Choose Maithili under All languages when you create your SUF Digitals release; the stores list it as Maithili, and caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL are included on every plan. Here are the steps, an honest look at playlists, and the Mithila seasons worth releasing for.
Yes, your Maithili songs can reach every major store
Maithili is the language of Mithila. In India it is spoken across the Darbhanga, Tirhut, Kosi, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Munger divisions of Bihar, and in Jharkhand's Santhal Pargana division, where it is an additional official language. Across the border, it is spoken in Nepal's Madhesh and Koshi provinces.
Census 2011 counted about 1.36 crore Maithili speakers, and Maithili is one of the 22 languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Its song tradition runs from the poet Vidyapati, six centuries ago, to the long cycle of wedding songs, and films such as Mithila Makhan (2016) are part of an effort to revive Maithili cinema.
Release once with SUF Digitals and a Maithili song reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram, Facebook and 150+ stores worldwide. Caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL come with it at no extra cost.
How to release a Maithili song
If you searched "maithili song upload kaise kare", this is the full process on SUF Digitals, in six steps.
- Create your SUF Digitals account and choose a plan: prices start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and you keep 100% of your copyright on every plan.
- Add your artist name with your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. On your first release, mark yourself as new to the stores, and your artist pages are created with it.
- Create a release and choose Maithili under All languages in the language picker, for the release and for each track. The stores list it as Maithili.
- Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a square 3000 x 3000 pixel cover in JPG or PNG. Try the free cover art checker first; it runs the same checks.
- Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, and declare each song's rights. Choose your release date if you are on Rising or higher; on Debut it is set 7 days after you submit.
- Submit. SUF checks the release against the stores' rules before it is sent. On release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.
Maithili playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music
The straight answer: we found no store-run playlist just for Maithili on Spotify, JioSaavn or Apple Music as of October 2026. Maithili is also not yet on JioSaavn's own list of languages.
That does not make pitching pointless. From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches your release to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, where a Maithili song is considered for their wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists. An EP or album can be pitched as one release.
The release needs to be locked at least 14 days before release day, as Spotify will not consider a song pitched fewer than 7 days ahead. The editors decide, a place on any playlist is never guaranteed, and SUF never pays for streams or playlist spots. Every play from your own listeners also feeds Spotify's algorithmic playlists: Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly. Read more about playlist pitching.
Titles, script and spelling
Maithili's official script is Devanagari. Its original script is Tirhuta, and Kaithi and the Newar script were also used in the past.
Write the store title in Roman letters, the way a listener in Darbhanga or Janakpur would type it into a phone. Share the Devanagari title, or the Tirhuta one if you use it, in the release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions.
Your artist name goes in English letters (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only), spelled one way on every release, since two spellings make two artist pages. Titles cannot carry emoji, ALL CAPS, "feat." or promo words such as Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song or Trending, so a fan looking for a Maithili new release song finds it by its real name. Words on the cover must match the title and artist name.
When Maithili songs are in demand
Kartik, in October and November, holds two festivals with songs of their own. Sama Chakeva, the festival of brothers and sisters, has its traditional Maithili folk songs, and Chhath has songs sung at night.
Weddings have a cycle of their own: a Maithili wedding day begins with Suhag songs and ends with Samdaun. Birth songs welcome a new child.
For a festival song on Pro and above, lock the release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched. Three to four weeks before Sama Chakeva or Chhath is better, so the song is out before families begin their preparations.
Vidyapati, folk and devotional songs
Maithili folk music is wide: Vidyapati songs, the love songs Batagami, Gwalari, Raasa and Maana, Uddasi and Athongar, and Sama Chakeva geet. Devotional singing includes Gosaunik-git and Bhagabati-git for family deities, along with bhajan and kirtan.
Every track carries a rights type: original, cover, traditional or public domain, or remix. Vidyapati's poems and songs handed down for generations belong to everyone, so mark them Traditional or public domain, with a recording that is your own.
A song someone else wrote recently, or a film song, is a cover and needs the song owner's licence (cover songs); a remix needs the original recording owner's permission. YouTube Content ID takes only original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats, never bhajans or folk songs. The devotional music guide has more.
Questions Maithili artists ask
Can I upload a Maithili song on Spotify and JioSaavn?
Yes. Select Maithili under All languages on your SUF Digitals release, and it is delivered to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ stores as a Maithili song.
Is there a Maithili playlist on Spotify?
We found no Spotify-run playlist just for Maithili as of October 2026. From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches your release to Spotify's editors for wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists, and your fans' listening feeds Release Radar and Daily Mix.
Can I release a Vidyapati geet?
Yes. Vidyapati's poems are centuries old, so declare the song Traditional or public domain; the recording itself must be yours. If you copy a recent recording's tune or arrangement, it is a cover and needs the song owner's licence. Traditional songs are not put on YouTube Content ID.
Can a Maithili singer in Nepal release with SUF?
Yes. Artists outside India can join, and royalties are paid by international bank transfer (SWIFT).
Do Maithili songs get caller tunes?
Yes, on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, included on every plan at no extra cost. Each month a listener keeps your song as their caller tune, it earns.
When should I release a Sama Chakeva or Chhath song?
Release it three to four weeks before the festival if you can, and on Pro and above lock it at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched. Both fall in Kartik, in October or November.
