How to release a Bengali song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Puja season and caller tunes

By the SUF Digitals team · Updated

Yes, you can release a Bengali song on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores with a single SUF Digitals release. Choose Bengali under "All languages" in the language picker, add your master and cover, and the stores list the song as Bengali. Plans start at Rs 999 a year plus GST, with caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL included.

Yes, you can release your Bengali songs everywhere

Bengali, or Bangla (বাংলা), is the mother tongue of about 9.6 crore people in India (Census 2011), more than any Indian language except Hindi. Most live in West Bengal, and Bengali is also an official language in Tripura, Jharkhand and Assam's Barak Valley.

It is the national language of Bangladesh, with Bengali communities in the UK, the US, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and the Middle East. Spotify's Loud and Clear report (September 2026) says royalties from Bengali-language music grew nearly 40% worldwide in 2025.

The music runs from Tollywood film songs (the name comes from Kolkata's Tollygunge), Bangla rock and jibonmukhi gaan to Baul, Bhatiali, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti. One SUF release reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram and 150+ stores, plus caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL.

How to release a Bengali song

One form on SUF covers a Bengali song release, and the finished release goes to every store together.

  1. Create your SUF Digitals account and choose a plan. Plans start at Rs 999 a year (before GST), and you keep 100% of your copyright on every plan.
  2. Add your artist name and your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. First release? Mark yourself as new to the stores, and your artist pages are created with it.
  3. Create a release and choose the language for the release and for each track: in the language picker, open "All languages" and pick Bengali. The stores list the song as Bengali.
  4. Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a square 3000 x 3000 pixel cover in JPG or PNG. Test the cover first with the free cover art checker, which runs the same checks.
  5. Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare each song's rights and set the release date: you choose it from the Rising plan up, and on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
  6. Submit. SUF checks every release against the stores' rules before it goes out; on release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.

Bengali playlists on JioSaavn and the other stores

JioSaavn lists Bengali in its language menu, and its editors keep a set of Bengali playlists. These are the store-run lists we found in October 2026.

Spotify, Apple Music and Gaana support Bengali too: in 2019 it was one of ten music languages Spotify India offered new listeners at sign-up, and Apple Music's India site can be browsed in Bengali.

From the Pro plan up (Pro, Signature, Label Pro and Label Enterprise), SUF pitches your single, EP or album to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, including those behind each store's language playlists. Lock the release at least 14 days before release day, since Spotify only considers songs pitched 7 days or more ahead. Editors decide what they add, placement is never guaranteed, and SUF never buys streams or playlist spots. More on playlist pitching.

Titles in Roman letters, Bangla script in your captions

Bengali is written in the Bengali-Assamese script, but on the stores write the title in Roman letters, the way listeners type it into search on a phone. JioSaavn names its own lists that way: Bangla Hit Songs, Notun Folk.

Put the Bengali-script title in your release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions, where fans who read Bangla will see it. The title itself stays clean: no emoji, no ALL CAPS, no "feat." and no promo words such as Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song or Trending.

Your artist name goes in English letters (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only), spelled one way on every release and profile, because a second spelling becomes a second artist page. Words on your cover must match the title and artist name on the release.

When Bengali songs are in demand: Puja and Pohela Boishakh

Durga Puja, in September or October, has a release tradition of its own: several Bengali albums come out for Puja every year. Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year on 14 or 15 April, begins with song. In Dhaka the day opens at dawn with Tagore's "Esho he Boishakh", and Prabhat Pheri processions in West Bengal sing Tagore songs.

Work back from the date. On Pro and above, lock your release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched, and three to four weeks before the festival if you can. From Rising up you set the exact day; on Debut it falls 7 days after you submit.

Baul, Rabindra Sangeet and devotional songs: the rights

Bengal's folk forms include Baul, Bhatiali, Bhawaiya, Kavigan song battles, Gombhira, Pala, Dhamail, Murshidi gaan and Fakir gaan. Its devotional songs include Shyama Sangeet for the goddess Kali, Ramprasadi, Lalon Geeti and Prabhat Sangeet.

A traditional folk song belongs to everyone: mark it "Traditional or public domain" in the rights step, and make sure the recording is yours. A song by a known composer, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Geeti included, counts as a cover while its copyright lasts, so check its status first. A cover needs the song owner's licence, and a remix needs the original recording owner's permission (cover songs).

Only original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats go on YouTube Content ID; traditional and public domain songs, folk songs and bhajans among them, never do. See also our guide to devotional music.

Questions Bengali artists ask

Can I upload a Bengali song on Spotify from India?

Yes. Create a release on SUF Digitals, choose Bengali under "All languages", and it goes to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and 150+ other stores. The Debut plan costs Rs 999 a year before GST.

How do I get my song on JioSaavn's Bengali playlists?

Through a pitch, because JioSaavn's editors choose what goes on lists like Bangla Hit Songs. From the Pro plan up SUF pitches your release if you lock it at least 14 days before release day, though a place is never guaranteed.

Can I release my own recording of a Baul or Rabindra Sangeet song?

Yes, if the recording is yours. Mark a traditional folk song "Traditional or public domain"; a song whose composer's copyright still runs is a cover and needs the owner's licence.

When should I release a Durga Puja song?

Lock it three to four weeks before Puja, which falls in September or October. If you want it pitched (Pro plan and above), never lock it less than 14 days before release day.

Can my Bengali song become a caller tune on Jio and Airtel?

Yes. Caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL are included on every plan at no extra cost, and a song kept as a caller tune earns every month.

I live outside India. Can I release Bengali songs with SUF?

Yes. Payouts go by international bank transfer (SWIFT) or PayPal.
