How to release an Assamese song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Bihu season and caller tunes
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
Yes, you can release an Assamese song on Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and over 150 other stores with one SUF Digitals release. Pick Assamese under "All languages" in the language picker and the stores list your song as Assamese. Bodo and Karbi songs can go out too. Prices start at Rs 999 a year plus GST, and every plan includes caller tunes.
Yes, you can release your Assamese songs everywhere
Assamese, also written Asamiya or Oxomiya, has about 1.53 crore speakers (Census 2011). Nearly all live in Assam, where it is the main official language, with smaller groups in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland. It has long been a common tongue across parts of the Northeast, and in October 2024 the Government of India declared it a classical language.
The music stretches from Bihu geet, played on dhol, pepa and taal, to the Borgeet of Sankardev and Madhavdev. Jollywood, Assamese cinema, takes its name from the Jyoti Chitraban studio and began with Joymoti in 1935. Bihu geet or hip hop, one SUF release takes your song to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Gaana, Instagram and 150+ stores, with caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL.
How to release an Assamese song
An Assamese song upload on SUF is a single release, delivered to every store together.
- Create your SUF Digitals account and choose a plan. Plans start at Rs 999 a year (before GST), and you keep 100% of your copyright on every plan.
- Add your artist name and your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. First release? Mark yourself as new to the stores, and your artist pages are created with it.
- Create a release and choose the language for the release and for each track: open "All languages" in the language picker and pick Assamese. The stores list the song as Assamese.
- Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a square 3000 x 3000 pixel cover in JPG or PNG. Test the cover first with the free cover art checker, which runs the same checks.
- Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare each song's rights and set the release date: you choose it from the Rising plan up, and on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
- Submit. SUF checks every release against the stores' rules before it goes out; on release day, share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.
Assamese playlists on JioSaavn and Spotify
JioSaavn and Gaana both name Assamese as a music language, and JioSaavn's editors run a full shelf of Assamese playlists. These are the ones we found in October 2026.
On Spotify we found no editorial playlist just for Assamese (as of October 2026). A pitch still reaches the editors of Spotify's wider Indian, folk and devotional lists, and your fans' own listening feeds Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly.
From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches releases, whole EPs and albums included, to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, language playlist editors among them. Lock your release at least 14 days before release day, as Spotify only considers songs pitched 7 or more days ahead. The final say rests with the editors, nothing is guaranteed, and SUF never buys streams or playlist spots (playlist pitching).
| Store | Editorial playlist | Kind of song |
|---|---|---|
| JioSaavn | Chartbusters 2026 - Assamese | Chart songs of 2026 |
| JioSaavn | Magh Bihu | Songs for Magh Bihu |
| JioSaavn | Best of Indie - Assamese | Independent Assamese music |
| JioSaavn | Filmy Assamese Songs | Film songs |
Titles, script and spelling
Assamese is written in the Bengali-Assamese script; the older Kamarupi script is in decline. On the stores, give the title in Roman letters, as fans type it into search on a phone, the way JioSaavn titles its own lists, Magh Bihu among them.
Share the Assamese-script title in your release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions. Keep the title free of emoji, ALL CAPS, "feat." and promo words such as Official, Lyrical, Video Song, Latest, New Song or Trending.
Artist names go in English letters only (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) -). Keep one Roman spelling on every release and profile, because a second spelling becomes a second artist page, and make the words on the cover match the title and artist name.
When Assamese songs are in demand: Bohag and Magh Bihu
Rongali or Bohag Bihu, the Assamese New Year in mid-April, is the season of Bihu geet: Husori singers go from house to house, and Guwahati's staged Bihutoli functions include concerts by solo singers. Bhogali or Magh Bihu, the harvest feast in January, is the other date to plan for, and JioSaavn runs a playlist named simply Magh Bihu.
On Pro and above, lock a Bihu release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched; a release day three to four weeks before the festival is better, which means mid-March for Bohag Bihu and mid-December for Magh Bihu. Debut sets the release date 7 days after you submit; from Rising up, you choose it.
Bihu geet, Husori and Borgeet: the rights
A traditional Bihu geet or Husori belongs to everyone, and so do the centuries-old Borgeet of Sankardev and Madhavdev. Mark them "Traditional or public domain" in the rights step, and make sure the recording is yours: your voice, your dhol and pepa players, your mix.
Recording a Bihu song someone else wrote is a cover and needs the song owner's licence, and a remix needs permission from the original recording's owner (cover songs). Traditional and public domain songs never go on YouTube Content ID, which is kept for original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats; our devotional music guide has more.
Bodo and Karbi songs can go out too
Bodo (about 14.8 lakh speakers, Census 2011, mostly in the Bodoland Territorial Region, written in Devanagari since 1975) and Karbi (about 5.3 lakh, mainly in Karbi Anglong, usually written in Roman letters) can be released as well. Both sit under "Adivasi (tribal) languages" in the language picker; the stores list them under Hindi, and the release keeps your language with us. Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year in mid-April, is a festival of dance and instrumental music. See releasing in tribal languages.
Questions Assamese artists ask
Can I release an Assamese song on Spotify and JioSaavn?
Yes. Choose Assamese under "All languages" on your SUF release, and it goes to Spotify, JioSaavn, YouTube Music, Apple Music and more than 150 other stores, from Rs 999 a year plus GST.
When should I release a Bihu song?
Three to four weeks before the festival works well: by mid-March for Bohag Bihu in April, and by mid-December for Magh Bihu in January. On Pro and above, lock it at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched.
How do I get my song on JioSaavn's Magh Bihu playlist?
JioSaavn's editors pick the songs for it. From the Pro plan up, SUF pitches your release to them, but nobody can promise a place on the list.
Can I release a traditional Bihu geet or Borgeet?
Yes, as long as the recording is yours. Mark it "Traditional or public domain" in the rights step; traditional songs are not put on YouTube Content ID.
Can SUF release Bodo or Karbi songs?
Yes, under "Adivasi (tribal) languages" in the language picker. The stores file them under Hindi, with your song, title and artist name unchanged.
How long does delivery take for an Assamese release?
Delivery takes 7 to 10 days on Debut and 3 to 5 days on Rising and Label Starter, while Pro, Signature, Label Pro and Label Enterprise go through the Priority Queue. From Rising up you also choose the release date.
