Song on the wrong artist profile: how to fix it on Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn and YouTube

By the SUF Digitals team · Updated

When your song lands on another artist's profile, or theirs lands on yours, it is a mapping mistake: the store matched the release to an artist by name. Report it with links through your distributor, never delete and re-upload, and give your store artist links on every release so it does not happen again. It is common in India because so many artists share names like Raj, Aman or Simran.

Why songs end up on the wrong profile

Every artist page on Spotify, Apple Music and the other stores has its own ID. When a release arrives with only an artist name, the store either attaches it to an existing page with that name or creates a new page. If three singers called Aman exist, the store has to guess, and it sometimes guesses wrong.

Spelling makes it worse. Aman, Amaan and Aman Official are three different names to a store, so changing spelling between releases can split one artist into two pages, or merge two artists who are not the same person.

How to fix it, step by step

  1. Collect the links: the wrong profile, your correct profile, and the release or song that is in the wrong place, on each store where it happened.
  2. In your SUF portal, open Support and choose Release on the wrong artist profile.
  3. Pick My release is on the wrong artist profile, tick the stores, and paste the wrong profile links and your correct profile links. If you have no profile on that store yet, tick the box to have a new one created.
  4. Wait for the correction. The store moves the release; your streams move with it. There is no fixed time for it, so follow up on the same request rather than sending new ones.
  5. Do not delete and upload the song again. A new upload creates a duplicate and can lose the play counts and playlist places the song already has.

When someone else's song is on your profile

Use the same Support form and choose Someone else's music is on my profile. Give the links to your profile and to each song that is not yours. If the songs came from another distributor, the store can still correct the mapping on your profile once it is reported.

On Spotify you can also report a misattributed release through Spotify's content mismatch form. Spotify's Artist Profile Protection, in limited beta since March 2026, lets some artists review releases before they appear on their profile (Spotify for Artists).

How to stop it happening again

  • Give your store artist links on every release. On SUF, every artist on a release has a Spotify and an Apple Music link field. Paste your profile links, or tick 'not on it yet' for a store where you have no page. The release then attaches to the right page, and a new page is created only where you have none.
  • Pick one spelling of your name and never change it. Use it on every release, on your cover, and in your Instagram and YouTube names.
  • Make your name distinctive if it is common. Add a surname or a word you will keep for life, for example Aman Rathi rather than Aman.
  • Claim your profiles early. Spotify for Artists, Apple Music for Artists, JioSaavn ArtistOne and Amazon Music for Artists let you see and fix your page. See claim your artist profile.
  • Credit featured artists with their own links too, so a feature does not create a stray profile for them.

YouTube: duplicate Topic channels

On YouTube the same problem shows up as two Topic channels (Your Name - Topic) or your songs inside someone else's. Once you have an Official Artist Channel, ask for every Topic channel that is yours to be merged into it: on SUF, Support has a YouTube Official Artist Channel (OAC) request and a Merge a Topic channel into your OAC request. See Art Tracks and Topic channels explained.

Instagram and Facebook

On Instagram the song's audio page links to an artist profile. If it links to the wrong one, or to none, use Instagram and Facebook profile linking in Support with your correct Instagram profile and the audio page link. More in add your song to Instagram music.

Common questions

How long does it take to move a song to the right Spotify profile?

There is no fixed time. Once the store accepts the correction it is applied across its catalogue, so follow up on the same request rather than starting a new one.

Should I delete my song and upload it again?

No. A new upload creates a duplicate, and the song can lose its play counts and playlist places. Ask for the mapping to be corrected instead.

I am a new artist with a common name. How do I get my own profile?

Tick that you are not on the store yet when you add yourself to the release, so a new page is created, and use a distinctive name you will keep.

Will my streams move with the song?

Yes. Correcting the mapping moves the release, with its streams, to the right profile.

Is there a Hindi version?

The Spotify guide in Hindi covers it: Spotify par gana kaise upload kare.
