How to release a Tamil song: Spotify, JioSaavn, Tamil playlists and caller tunes
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
Yes, you can release a Tamil song on Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, YouTube Music and 150+ other stores, and fans can set it as their caller tune on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL. On SUF Digitals you choose Tamil under All languages, upload your master and cover, and the stores list the song as Tamil. Saurashtra and Badaga songs can be released too: choose them under More Indian languages, and the stores list Saurashtra under Gujarati and Badaga under Kannada.
Yes, you can release your Tamil songs everywhere
Tamil is the first language of about 6.9 crore people (Census 2011), the fifth largest scheduled language in India. Its home is Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, it is spoken in parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and it is an official language in Sri Lanka and Singapore.
Film music from Kollywood, named after Chennai's Kodambakkam, is a big part of Tamil listening: 19 of the 50 songs in Spotify's Hot Hits Tamil carried a film tag on 23 October 2026. Independent singles reach JioSaavn's Tamil Top 50 as well, and Gaana bands are taking Chennai's street songs to new audiences.
One SUF Digitals release reaches Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, the Gaana app, Instagram, Facebook and 150+ stores worldwide. Caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL are included on every plan at no extra cost.
How to release a Tamil song, step by step
Tamil music distribution on SUF takes six steps. Anyone can sign up: there is no follower or stream minimum.
- Create your SUF Digitals account and choose a plan. Plans start at Rs 999 a year before GST, and you keep 100% of your copyright on every plan.
- Add your artist name with your Spotify and Apple Music profile links. On your first release, mark yourself new to the stores and your artist pages are created with it.
- Create a release and choose the language for the release and for each track. Tamil is under "All languages" and is listed as Tamil. Saurashtra and Badaga are under "More Indian languages": the stores have no category for them yet, so they list Saurashtra under Gujarati and Badaga under Kannada, where the Census groups them, and your release keeps your language with us. Want the stores to list it under Tamil? Choose Tamil instead.
- Upload a WAV or FLAC master (16 or 24 bit, 44.1 to 96 kHz) and a 3000 x 3000 pixel square cover in JPG or PNG. The free cover art checker runs the same checks first.
- Credit the singers, composers, lyricists and producers, declare the song rights and pick the release date. From the Rising plan up you choose it; on Debut it is set for you, 7 days after you submit.
- Submit. SUF checks every release against the stores' rules before it goes out, and on release day you share your free smart link, which opens the song in each fan's own music app.
Tamil playlists on Spotify, JioSaavn and Apple Music
Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music and Amazon Music all run playlists just for Tamil. These are the ones we found in October 2026:
From the Pro plan up (Pro, Signature, Label Pro and Label Enterprise), SUF pitches your release to the editors at Spotify, Apple Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, Amazon Music and YouTube Music, including the ones behind these Tamil lists, and can pitch a whole EP or album. Lock the release at least 14 days before release day, because Spotify only considers songs pitched 7 days or more ahead. Editors decide, placement is never guaranteed, and SUF never buys streams or playlist spots. More on playlist pitching.
| Store | Editorial playlists and charts |
|---|---|
| Spotify | Hot Hits Tamil, Trending Now Tamil, Latest Dance Tamil |
| JioSaavn | Tamil: India Superhits Top 50, Most Searched Songs - Tamil, Folk Dance - Tamil, Let's Play - Gaana Bala, Muruga |
| Apple Music | Tamil Hits, Breaking Tamil, Ultimate Tamil |
| Amazon Music | 50 Most Played: Tamil, Fresh Tamil |
Tamil titles, script and spelling
Tamil (தமிழ்) has its own script, an older Arabic-script form called Arwi, and an informal Roman spelling. The stores show Roman letters: all 50 titles in Spotify's Hot Hits Tamil and all 47 in JioSaavn's Tamil Top 50 used them on 23 October 2026.
So write your title in Roman letters, spelled the way fans type it on a phone, and give the Tamil-script title in the release description and your YouTube and Instagram captions. People search for the "latest Tamil song release", but Latest, like Official, Lyrical, Video Song, New Song and Trending, cannot go in a title. Titles also cannot carry emoji, "feat." or ALL CAPS.
Artist names must be in English letters (letters, numbers, spaces and . ' & ( ) - only), spelled one way everywhere, because a second spelling becomes a second artist page. Your Tamil song release poster for Instagram is yours to design, but the words on the cover art you upload must match the title and artist name.
When Tamil songs are in demand
Pongal in mid-January is when big-star Tamil films and their soundtracks are released. The Margazhi music season fills Chennai with nine weeks of Carnatic concerts from mid-November to January, and Chitra Pournami in April or May is a time for Murugan songs.
On Pro and above, lock the release at least 14 days before release day so it can be pitched; for festival songs, three to four weeks ahead is better. That means mid-December for Pongal, late October for a Margazhi release and about a month before Chitra Pournami.
Tamil folk, devotional and Christian songs
Tamil tradition runs from Gaana, sung in Chennai's Madras Bashai, and Oppari laments to Carnatic devotional songs by the Tamil Trinity of Muthu Thandavar, Arunachala Kavi and Marimutthu Pillai. Murugan songs have JioSaavn's Muruga playlist, and "Tamil Christian song release" is something artists search for.
Every track is declared as original, cover, traditional or public domain, or remix. A folk song or composition handed down for generations belongs to everyone: mark it "Traditional or public domain", with a recording that is yours. Someone else's film song, or a Christian song that is not traditional, is a cover and needs the song owner's licence, and a remix needs the original recording owner's permission.
Traditional songs never go on YouTube Content ID, which takes only original songs with no samples or non-exclusive beats. Read more on cover songs and devotional music.
Saurashtra and Badaga songs
Saurashtra (Sourashtra) is spoken mainly in Madurai, Thanjavur and Salem districts, and by Saurashtra families in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. About 2.5 lakh people gave it as their mother tongue (Census 2011), and it is written in its own script as well as in Tamil, Telugu, Devanagari and Roman letters. Its music lives in the Carnatic tradition, through the kirtanas of Natana Gopala Nayaki Swami and Venkataramana Bhagavathar (1781 to 1874), a Saurashtrian disciple of Thyagaraja. A JioSaavn search for "saurashtra song" brings up Gujarati songs about Gujarat's Saurashtra region, so give fans your exact title or smart link.
Badaga (Baduga) is spoken by about 1.3 lakh people (Census 2011) in about 400 villages, called hattis, in the Nilgiris. It is written in Tamil or Kannada script and has a script of its own, and Badaga cinema, based in Ooty, has made four films since the mid-1970s. The only Badaga songs we found on JioSaavn were Christian songs, tagged Tamil with Roman titles, so choose Tamil if you want yours listed beside them. Devva Habba and Hethai Habba are the community's big festivals.
We found no store-run playlist just for Saurashtra or Badaga (as of October 2026). A pitch from the Pro plan up still puts the song in front of editors for their wider Indian, folk and devotional playlists, and your own fans' listening feeds Release Radar, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly on Spotify.

How can my song get into Hot Hits Tamil?
