DistroKid alternatives for Indian artists (2026)
By the SUF Digitals team · Updated
DistroKid is a strong global distributor, but Indian artists often look elsewhere for three reasons: it bills in US dollars, it does not deliver caller tunes on Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, and releases come down if you stop renewing. Here is what to compare, and how the main alternatives differ.
Why Indian artists look for a DistroKid alternative
- Dollar billing. An Indian card usually adds a foreign transaction fee to a dollar charge, and the rupee cost changes with the exchange rate at every renewal.
- No caller tunes. Caller tunes are an Indian telecom product. For regional and devotional music they can earn more than streaming, and DistroKid does not deliver them.
- Renewals keep music live. If a DistroKid renewal fails, releases come down unless you paid an extra fee per release to keep them up.
- Content ID terms. DistroKid offers YouTube Content ID as a paid add-on and keeps a share of the claims revenue.
What to compare in any alternative
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| What share of royalties do I keep? | The share you give up usually costs more than the plan fee on a song that earns. |
| Do I pay and get paid in rupees? | No forex fees going in or coming out, and payouts to a bank account or UPI. |
| Are caller tunes included, on all four telecoms? | Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL together cover almost every Indian mobile user. |
| What happens if I stop paying? | Your catalogue should not disappear because a card expired. |
| Is Content ID included? | YouTube is one of India's biggest music platforms. |
| Can I keep my ISRCs when I move? | That keeps your play counts and playlist history. |

Who should stay on DistroKid
If you release a very large number of tracks, are comfortable paying in dollars, and your listeners are mostly outside India, DistroKid's unlimited uploads can be good value. If your audience is in India and caller tunes, rupee payouts or Content ID matter, an Indian distributor will usually put more money in your account.
